Remuneration: Starting from $124,100 - $138,700 (Canadian Dollar)

Location: Vancouver, BC - Hybrid working (remote opportunities considered)

Hours: West Coast Canada (Pacific Time) office hours (9:00am - 2:00pm core hours), with flexibility to work with other time zones, particularly EST, BST/GMT

Role Overview

The Principal (Strategy Portfolio) is a key member of Kore Global’s senior leadership team bringing thought leadership, strategy and technical credibility in gender equality and social inclusion (G&I). The Principal (Strategy Portfolio) is a seasoned expert in applying feminist values and strategic principles to designing and delivering impactful G&I policy, funding and programming solutions. The Principal is a successful portfolio builder, who leads a team of high performing international development professionals with expertise in strategy, delivery of TA and design, champions business development, and ensures the successful delivery of complex, innovative, and intersectional feminist strategy processes in collaboration with associates, partners and clients.

Key Responsibilities

Portfolio Leadership

 

  • Champion and direct Kore Global’s strategy portfolio, providing expert knowledge and leadership to the development and execution of projects and client relations 
  • Lead robust and innovative, short and long-term intersectional G&I projects, acting as Project Director
  • Use technical evidence to inform policy, programming, and manage client relations according to Kore Global’s values, tools and approaches 
  • Lead on updating and refining Kore Global’s feminist approach to strategy development 
  • Work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders to develop, design, and implement projects
  • Ensure project deliverables meet or exceed client expectations and project outcomes
  • Provide intellectual leadership, technical expertise, strategic advice and mentoring to in-house staff and associates
  • Lead and support the development of Kore Global’s organisational learning and application of best practices in feminist strategy and technical assistance, approaches, methodologies and tools.

 

Business Development 

 

  • Lead the business development for the strategy portfolio, in collaboration with the Co-CEOs, and approach with a shared responsibility for achieving financial targets 
  • Lead successful bid development, identify right-sized approaches and methodologies, budget development, and resourcing
  • Promote Kore Global services and values, represent the company on panels and events 
  • Develop and nurture a large and vibrant global network and community, including donors, NGOs experts, research organizations, grassroots feminist organisations, and youth-led organisations
  • Identify opportunities for expanding the public profile of Kore Global, including the development of internal and external materials and publications
  • Champion and model effective client relationships, lead internal teams to respond effectively to complex client feedback and to manage client expectations 
  • Lead research and writing for learning pieces, webinars, blogs, and articles
  • Promote insights and resources through social media, various learning platforms, and communities of practice

 

Operational Leadership

 

  • Lead and champion business strategy and systems improvement, taking shared accountability for overall organisational success
  • Ensure the appropriate allocation of resources
  • Oversee project budgets and participate in related budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning processes
  • Develop and ensure compliance with financial and administrative policies and procedures, recommending and implementing systems improvements
  • Lead and participate in internal learning sessions, model the application of learning to processes and approaches
  • Collaborate across internal teams to support and grow Kore Global’s contribution, reach, profile, and reputation

 

People & Culture 

 

  • Champion the organisation’s leadership principles as demonstrated in the management and development of employees
  • Foster a positive and respectful workplace culture and cooperative working relationships 
  • Lead an organisational culture that is culturally safe and ethical, and that attracts, retains, and motivates diverse employees to contribute to the successful delivery of programs and services 
  • Hire and manage the strategy portfolio team members with direct oversight of staff evaluation and professional development
  • Monitor the technical specialist team attendance and address issues related to time off, overtime, vacations, etc.
  • Build the capacity of the technical specialist team including the development and implementation of processes for programme orientation, coaching, development, and performance appraisal
  • Work with the Co-CEOs to ensure human resource and labour relations processes are effective, efficient, and timely 
  • Ensure the workplace, meets all health and safety guidelines and regulations by establishing organisational health and safety programs

Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Minimum 15 years’ leadership and delivery experience working on gender and inclusion-focused strategy, technical assistance and design in international development supported by private sector, multilateral and bilateral institutions, international NGOs and foundations (preferably in consulting)
  • Specific expertise in gender lens investing, working with the private sector, and on climate and gender is an asset
  • Master’s degree or equivalent in the Social Sciences (e.g. gender, human rights, anthropology, international development or other relevant subjects)
  • Fluency in spoken and written English; ability to work in other languages (particularly Spanish) is desirable

  • Knowledge and Understanding: Expert understanding of key concepts, frameworks, and approaches as well as the evidence and research related to gender equality and the rights and the empowerment of women and girls in all their diversity
  • Skills and Application: Expert skills in G&I policy, funding and programming including, feminist strategy development and implementation, organisational and programmatic mainstreaming and integration, design, research, monitoring and evaluation, training, and technical assistance; able to lead robust and innovative strategy processes and projects to address gender inequality and social exclusion and inform actionable policy, funding and programme implications and recommendations 
  • Business Development and Consulting: Acts confidently and competently as Project Director; leads successful bids and projects, skilled at identifying areas for business strategy and system improvement
  • Project Management: Excellent organisational and time management skills required to work independently or lead team members; can manage others to lead the project cycle using Kore Global’s tools and approaches
  • Teamwork and Relationship Management: Models leadership and teamwork, nurturing impactful relationships internally and externally, expertly navigating complex engagements with tact and diplomacy
  • Communication and Influence: Superior networking skills and written communication that is clear, compelling, and influential; to the highest standard produces deliverables, lead high profile panels and presentations, and lead teams to respond to complex client feedback
  • Intersectional Feminist Principles and Behaviours: Understands and consistently role models feminist principles and behaviours, champions a feminist approach both internally and externally; leads on improving Kore Global’s organisational feminist approach
